What is AIR?
- What is AIR?
Air is a unique integrated wireless Triple play point to multipoint system solution on the telecommunication market, providing microwave radio access to all the residential and business users in a radius of 25 and more km from every base station. An operator (CATV, ISP, incumbent, others) is able to provide all the services that users are looking for today – digital TV broadcast (more than 100 digital TV programs in DVD or HD quality at the same time), High-Speed Internet, VoIP telephony, FAX services, Pay per View; Video on Demand, Telemetry, etc.
How does AIR work? The standards used in the Air system are the same as in bidirectional digital cable TV networks – DVB-T for TV broadcast and DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS for IP traffic (including VoIP). The downstream distributes TV and RA programs and IP traffic as in standard CATV network (the broadcast is similar to Satellite broadcast), upstream consist of IP traffic only (including VoIP) in the direction from the end user to the Main station. The same system can be used in a standard coaxial, analog or digital cable TV network or in a combined network (wireless and cable), providing both – TV and IP access over wireless and coaxial cable infrastructure. The Air system is suitable to expand the network and service portfolio of ISPs, mobile operators, incumbents.
How good is the business opportunity?By implementing the AIR system, an operator is able to provide the most advanced triple play services to his customer base, by having low customer acquisition cost, Fast Deployment and Immediate start of Revenues resulting in Return on Investment typically in 18 to 30 month.
Who should buy and operate an AIR network? The AIR system is particularly interesting for alternative operators, for Internet service providers and for cable operators and well- suited for fixed incumbents, mobile operators and for non- telecommunications companies.
- AIR is very interesting for developed and underdeveloped telecoms markets
- In developed markets, AIR is ideal as a complementary solution to existing access networks
- In underdeveloped markets, AIR is ideal to rapidly and economically build a network which can cover vast areas
The AIR system has been developed by the Slovenian company Globtel which is selling the AIR system worldwide.
Both standard and proprietary elements, produced by Globtel, can be bought from Globtel.
Globtel works together with partners to offer services such as network planning, roll-out and integration support to AIR customers.
